It used to be that performance CUVs like the 2018 Audi SQ5 were “niche” products, but these days, they’re more important than ever. And while some might see a turbocharged engine instead of a supercharged one—as the four rings have done in this model—as a step backwards, reviewers love it for its broad power band, and its unrelenting performance chops.

Instead of the old supercharged unit, Audi has fitted the SQ5 with a more-powerful turbocharged V6 that makes 354 hp and 369 lb-ft of torque. The turbocharger actually is part of what makes the SQ5 more potent, with peak-torque kicking in much lower in the rev range. A new Drive Select system is on hand to customize the suspension on the fly, as well as an eight-speed automatic and Quattro AWD. Reviewers loved the new S Sport package, which adds adaptive air suspension that enables 3.9 inches of adjustable ride height. Virtual Cockpit, Audi MMI, and other options round out the package list highlights.
